One of the most interesting features about Greenfield town is the Yankee Siege. This is considered to be one of the most powerful trebuchet instruments in the world and it has been designed to throw stones weighing 250 lbs to 300 lbs. It can throw pumpkins to a distance of about 300 yards to 400 yards with a counterweight that is partially loaded with pumpkins that weigh about 50 lbs to 100 lbs.

The Yankee Siege’s Punkin Chunkin contest has set world records many times. In 2004, it set a 1394 foot World Record throw with an 8-10 lb. pumpkin and in the following year, it beat the record carrying out a 1702 foot World Record throw with 8-10 lb. pumpkin. The 2009 record beat all previously set record with a throw at 2034 feet.

The event that gets everyone together here is the Punkin Chunkin. This event is a really intense one, where so many people will be actually competing with one another on how far their pumpkin will be thrown. It’s a pretty charged scene with so many participants waiting to see how their throw goes. The best kind of pumpkin to be used in the Yankee Siege is the Lumina pumpkin. Participants are best advised to use it, as it is better for throwing that other pumpkin types. This pumpkin variety is different from others because it has a smooth skin and is spherical in shape, with a thick outer wall.

Many people from afar come to participate in the Punkin Chunkin Contest. Participants have to follow the rules with respect to what they have to bring along and how they should get ready for the real contest.
