Most of White Mountain National Forest (WMNF) resides in New Hampshire, but a small part of it also falls into the state of Maine. The most interesting aspect about this park is that it has such natural beauty that is serves as an ideal location for various outdoor activities. You can enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, backpacking, trailing and much more.
A unique feature about this park is that it is made up of three separate areas. The main area of the park includes the Presidential Range. Other ranges included in this forest area are Twin, Bond, Sandwich, Wiley and Carter-Moriah. This forest region has 23 developed campgrounds. Campers should check which campsites offer reservations, but most of them provide campers with campsites on a ‘first come first serve’ basis. Campers will find this forest region the best place to go mountain biking, as there is an expansive stretch of roads that offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy thrilling mountain biking adventures. However, it is also important to note that certain areas of the forest are not open for biking, such as the Appalachian Trail and five areas that are designated as solely wilderness areas.
The six areas in the park that have been designated as wildlife areas include the Federal Wilderness Areas, Presidential Range/Dry River Wilderness, Pemigewasset Wilderness, Great Gulf Wilderness, Sandwich Range Wilderness, Caribou/Speckled Mountain Wilderness and Wild River Wilderness. These areas are meant primarily for people studying natural wildlife and vegetation, or for those who want experience a more primitive form of camping.
The White Mountain National Forest (WMNF) is a place of scenic, natural beauty and is the spot where a large number of ski areas and trails are present. Since it is a place that offers the best opportunities for skiing and trailing, it is often visited by those who love recreational outdoor activities.
