Preparing your trunk for a road trip emergency

There is nothing more frightening about going on a road trip than being stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Instead of waiting until that happens, stock your trunk with emergency supplies before you leave just in case you have to spend the night in your car. The supplies do not have to take up a lot of space, but it is important for you to be prepared for just about anything.

When you are packing emergency supplies, first make sure you have all of your prescriptions that you or your family may need. This will prevent a close call from occurring. You will want to purchase a first aid kit for your trip. A typical first aid kit should have bandages, absorbent compress dressings, antibiotic ointment packets, antiseptic wipe packets, Ibuprofen, blankets, scissors, gauze, tweezers, and more. You can also put in additional supplies that are specific to your family.

Also, in case your car breaks down on the side of the road make sure you have basic equipment. You can put objects such as oil, coolant, funnel, tire pressure gauge, jumper cable, a jack, an assortment of tools, flashlight with extra batteries, and more. Make sure your spare tire is working correctly. Include extra blankets, food, and water just in case you are stranded in your vehicle for a couple of days.

Emergencies happen and it is wise to be prepared for them. Make sure you research a little bit about the area you will be driving in. What will the weather be like during that time? How is traffic? Is the road under construction?

Before you set out with your trunk packed, make sure you have a charged cell phone and its charger with you. Also, you can also purchase an electricity power converter. Not only does the converter prove to be helpful in emergencies, but you can also charge your cell phone and laptop while you are driving. The power converter usually costs around $50. You simply plug it into your cigarette lighter in your car.
