If you are a nature lover and are seeking natural, scenic places to see from Greenfield town, you have to check out Miller State Park. This park covers a wide 553 acres of land and visitors to the park can enjoy its scenic beauty by driving up to the summit of Pack Monadnock Mountain. The mountain rises to 2,290 feet and this park covers Pack Monadnock summit as well as the flank area.
This park has some of the best hiking trails passing through it, the most important being the Wapack Trail, which is the longest trail in the Wapack mountain range. It is a 21 mile trail that features some of the most scenic locations and places of natural beauty. Two other important trails that pass through this park are Raymond Trail and Marion Trail. The Raymond Trail starts at the western part of the mountain. This is a 1.6 mile trail and it was cut out by Peterborough Conservation Commission and the Peterborough Boy Scout Troop 808. The Marion Trail starts at Route 101 parking area and rises for 1.4 miles up to the top of the Pack Monadnock Mountain.
The admission rate for adults is $4 and for children is $2. It is open full time from June to November and the park’s gates are open during the day. The best way to see the park in its entire natural beauty is by visiting the fire tower. This tower is located on Pack Monadnock Mountain and was once used for detecting fires in the surrounding area. Now, however, it is no longer used that way and standing on the tower gives a majestic view of all that is around right from the summit.
Those looking for a place where they can have a fun time picking with their family or friends will find Miller State Park to be ideal.
