Hopefully before you set out on your trip, you thought about where you would be laying your head for the night. It is important that if you are driving long distances that you get enough sleep during the night or day depending on when you would rather drive. Before you leave home, make sure you take a look at your route.
First, you should determine if you know anyone along the way. Do not be afraid to call up an old friend and ask if you can stay the night. Let them know your plans and see if they have extra room for the night. Talk to your family and close friends. You might have a relative just off the highway you haven’t seen in a couple of years.
Another option is to look up motels or hotels along your driving route. If you plan ahead, you can figure out how much you have to drive and what exit you should get off. Many times you can find deals just by searching online. Before you start driving, make sure you call the hotel and reserve a room. In order to reserve a room, you usually need to have a credit card handy. It is up to you if you just call ahead or book in advance.
If your plans have fallen through or you just need to sleep, look at your map and see if there are any hospitals, rest stops, or truck plazas. If you are going to sleep in your car, you will want to make sure you find a well-lite place that usually has people around. Usually rest stops are not a great idea.. Truck plazas are great because there are always people around. Put in your eye plugs, get under your blanket, and get a little bit of shut-eye before the next leg of your trip.
