Whether you are driving several hours or several days to your destination, you need something to do to pass the time. You can play games, read books, sing, or host group activities.
Everyone in the car can play several classic travel games. Play the ABC Game by having everyone look for letters on billboards, license plates, signs, and more. You start at the beginning of the alphabet and whoever gets to the end wins.
You can also look at where license plates are from. Doing this is fun. You never know if you will find Hawaii or Alaska.
You can also play the treasure hunt game. This game is designed for groups that have stops planned or will be stopping a lot. It is not designed for all night drives. To start out, have everyone in the car roll dice to see who is the treasure hider. The person with the highest number wins. The treasure hider will look around at the location they have stopped and pick a treasure. As the car gets going, the other people will ask questions about the treasure. If you think you know the treasure, ask them specifically if the object is the treasure.
You can also keep points to see who wins. The treasure hider gets 20 points for rolling the largest number. If you guess right, you get 20 points. If you guess wrong, you get 10 points taken away. You can have a negative score.
If you have children, you can put together a backpack your child can use as you are traveling. Include objects such as coloring books and crayons, activity books with puzzles and mazes, action figures, or books. To keep your children from looking at all of the activities, have them pick a new activity if they want to every hour.
